Current Covid measures

The Government has announced that England is now under Plan A measures. This means:

  • The government is no longer asking people to work from home.
  • There is no longer a legal requirement to wear a face covering. The government suggests that you continue to wear a face covering in crowded and enclosed spaces where you may come into contact with other people you do not normally meet.
  • Face coverings are required in health-care settings, including primary care (GP, dental and eye care surgeries) and pharmacies.
  • Mandatory COVID-19 certification is no longer required, but venues may choose to use the NHS COVID Pass voluntarily.
COVID-19 remains a risk
  • If you develop COVID-19 symptoms, self-isolate immediately and get a PCR test. You should self-isolate at home while you get a PCR test and wait for the results.
  • If you have a positive lateral flow test but no symptoms, you should log the result of your lateral flow test and self-isolate.
  • It is still a legal requirement for those with COVID-19 to self isolate for 10 days. People who have tested positive may be able to stop self-isolating at the start of day 6. This only applies if you get 2 negative rapid lateral flow test results on days 5 and 6 and do not have a temperature. Tests must be at least 24 hours apart. Individuals who are positive on their lateral flow tests must stay in isolation for 10 full days unless they have had two consecutive negative tests taken on separate days.
  • Fully vaccinated individuals who are identified as contacts of someone with COVID-19 should take daily rapid lateral flow tests for 7 days but are not legally required to self-isolate. Unvaccinated contacts are legally required to self-isolate for the full 10-day period.

Parents/Carers,
You may have heard about the issue regarding the demand for tests and the resulting shortages. Here is a message from Public Health England and the NHS which schools have been asked to share:

To ensure we identify those with coronavirus while avoiding a huge increase in demand for tests from people without coronavirus symptoms, we ask that you recommend to your pupils, students and staff who feel unwell, that they get tested if:

they develop one or more of the main coronavirus symptoms:
*a high temperature
*a new, continuous cough
*the loss or change of their sense of taste or smell, or
they are recommended to get tested by a healthcare provider (e.g. GP or nurse)
If a pupil, student or staff member develops one or more of the main coronavirus symptoms described above, only they should be tested. There is no need for their households to have a test, unless they are also symptomatic. Unless a pupil, student or staff member has one of the three main coronavirus symptoms, they should only be tested if instructed otherwise by the local authority, health protection team or their GP. As schools and colleges across England return, pupils and students may feel unwell for example with a sore throat, stomach upset or a headache. These pupils and students don’t need to book a test but may need to stay off school or college and seek medical advice through their GP or pharmacist as usual. Thank you for your ongoing support.
